Composer, sound artist, perfomer and researcher at IRCAM. Gilbert Nouno lives and works in Paris. He received the Rome Prize Fellowship from the Académie de France à Rome Villa Médicis in 2011 and the Kyoto Villa Kujoyama Fellowship in 2007. His music draws inspiration from visual and digital art and design, spanning notated and improvised forms.

As an interdisciplinary artist under the name Til Berg, he explores the synaesthesic and emergent relationships between peculiar art fields. His concepts of work and production take advantage of generative language, data mining processes and algorithms. He draws abstract minimalist shapes and motions from music and sounds with traditional and digital medium like lithography and video. His work was shown in Paris at the research center for creation IRCAM, in Rome and in Florence at the foundation for contemporary arts Fabbrica Europa 2012.

Gilbert Nouno is professor of music composition at the Royal College of Music in London, and DAAD invited professor for sonic arts in Detmold-Germany for 2016-17. He teaches live electronics and computer musics design at IRCAM and at Goldsmiths University in London where he is currently Visiting Research Fellow and was invited as a sound and composition lecturer at the 2014 International Summer Course for New Music in Darmstadt.

He has performed with artists from different styles and fields of expression such as Pierre Boulez and the Berliner Philharmoniker, Michael Barenboim at the Proms in the Royal Albert Hall in London, George Benjamin and the London Sinfonietta at the Southbank Centre, Jonathan Harvey and the Arditti String Quartet, jazz saxophonist Steve Coleman, flutist Malik Mezzadri, underground turntablist DJ Oil and choreographer Susan Buirge.

En 2011 il est lauréat de la Villa Médicis, Académie de France à Rome et de la Villa Kujoyama à Kyoto en 2007. Sa musique, liée aux arts visuels et aux technologies numériques, traverse constamment les frontières de l’écriture et de l’improvisation.

En tant qu’artiste visuel sous le nom de Til Berg, il combine la synesthésie des arts sonores et des autres médias. À partir de musiques et de sons il génère des visuels abstraits et minimalistes avec des médium traditionnels et numériques comme la lithographie et la vidéo. Ses travaux ont été montrés à Paris à l’institut de création Ircam, à Rome et à Florence à la fondation pour les arts contemporains Fabbrica Europa 2012.

Gilbert Nouno est professeur de composition à Londres au Royal College of Music, et professeur invité par le DAAD à Detmold (Allemagne). Il enseigne les arts sonores numériques à l’université de Goldsmiths à Londres où`il est également chercheur invité, le live electronics & computer music design à l’Ircam et la composition électronique aux cours internationaux d’été de Darmstadt en 2014.

Gilbert Nouno a collaboré avec de nombreux artistes de styles et d’horizons divers comme Pierre Boulez et l’orchestre Philharmonique de Berlin, Michael Barenboim aux BBC Proms/Royal Albert Hall de Londres, George Benjamin et le London Sinfonietta, Jonathan Harvey et le Quatuor Arditti, le saxophoniste de jazz Steve Coleman, le flutiste Malik Mezzadri et la chorégraphe Susan Buirge.


 

Gilbert Nouno ist Komponist, Klangkünstler und Performer. Er lebt und arbeitet in Paris und Berlin. Im Jahr 2011 erhielt er den Prix de Rome (Villa Medici) und 2007 das Stipendium für die Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto. Seine Musik ist von visueller und digitaler Kunst und Design inspiriert und umfasst sowohl notierte als auch improvisierte Formen. Als bildender Künstler erforscht er unter dem Künstlernamen Til Berg die synästhetischen Beziehungen zwischen einzelnen Kunstsparten. Er entwickelt abstrakte minimalistische Formen und Bewegungen aus Musik und Klängen mit traditionellen und digitalen Medien wie Video und Lithographie. Seine Werke wurden in Rom und in Florenz (Fabbrica Europa 2012) gezeigt. Gilbert Nouno erhielt Master und PhD Titel in Computermusik und Forschung zu künstlicher Intelligenz und ist weiterhin im Forschungsfeld Interaktion von Mensch und Maschine aktiv. Er lehrte Klangkunst am Pariser Conservatoire Jacques Ibert, Live-Elektronik und Computer Music Design am IRCAM und ist Research Fellow an der Goldsmiths University London. 2014 ist er als Gastdozent zu den Darmstädter Ferienkursen für neue Musik eingeladen. Als Performer trat Gilbert Nouno mit Künstlern unterschiedlicher Stilrichtungen und Ausdrucksbereiche auf wie Pierre Boulez und den Berliner Philharmonikern, mit dem Geiger Michael Barenboim bei den Londoner Proms in der Royal Albert Hall, mit George Benjamin und der London Sinfonietta im Southbank Centre, mit Jonathan Harvey und dem Arditti Quartet, mit dem Jazz-Saxophonisten Steve Coleman, dem Flötisten Malik Mezzadri und der Choreographin Susan Buirge.
